The Hickory High School (HHS) chapter of the Société Honoraire de Français (SHF) was founded in 2019.
The Hickory Career & Arts Magnet (HCAM) chapter of the Société Honoraire de Français was founded in 2023.

The honor society is sponsored by the national organization of the American Association of Teachers of French.

The logo features a capital H in reference to the city of Hickory, Hickory Career & Arts Magnet, and Hickory High School.
It features a fleur-de-lys in reference to the emblem used by the national Société Honoraire de Français.

Each spring, students who have taken or are enrolled in French 2 or above at HHS and/or HCAM and who have met academic, behavioral, and service standards will be inducted into the HHS or HCAM chapter of the Société Honoraire de Français in recognition of their success in and commitment to French.

Our local constitutions reflect the national goals of:
  • stimulating interest in the study of French
  • promoting high standards of scholarship
  • rewarding scholastic achievements
  • creating enthusiasm for and an understanding of Francophone cultures
  • promoting international friendship


SHF members and new inductees are required to attend the induction ceremony each spring.
Senior members receive their graduation honor cords in the spring of their senior year.
