Ellen Correll

Hello My Name Is...

Ellen Correll

Carpe Diem!

I have been teaching Latin at Hickory High School since 1992, and it has been a great experience. I received my BA from Salem College and my Latin teaching certification from Wake Forest University. I absolutely love my job; it's such a good feeling when I see my students work hard and meet the intellectual challenges I put before them. This year is my eighth year of teaching IB, and we will be studying some of the great poets of the Golden Age of Latin Literature: Catullus, Propertius, Ovid, and Virgil.
All Latin classes, however, share the same motto: Parate Dure Laborare (Prepare to Work Hard)

  Second Semester Schedule
1st Period  - Latin II
2.1 - Senior IB
2.2. Junior IB
3rd - Latin II at HCAM
4th - Planning
The Latin Club is open to membership for all current and former Latin students, and the dues are $5. We try to meet at least every other month for a fun gathering, whether it be to watch The Emperors Club or a cookout at the home of one of our members. Our meetings are for fellowship and building relationships; participation is encouraged but not required. (We are not a service club, but do we have some activities which help the community, e.g., Thanksgiving baskets for needy families and purchasing toys during the holidays for underprivileged children.)
