Amy Elliott

Hello My Name Is...

Amy Elliott

Hello, my name is Amy Elliott and I am the new Health Science I, Health Science II and Nursing Fundamentals teacher for Hickory High. My family and I relocated to Hickory, NC in April 2016 from Meridian, MS.  My husband, who is a pediatrician at Unifour Pediatrics, and I have been married almost 13 years.  We have two amazing children.  Our 10 year old Matthew, is our overachieving, star wars loving energetic fourth grader.  Our 6 year old Mary Catherine, is our intelligent, artistic and shy first grader.  We are very close to my extended family and are blessed that they moved with us to Hickory.  My parents, brother and nephew are now only a few miles away.

I received my bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1999.  I have experience in gerontology, medical surgical nursing, inpatient adolescent psychiatric and recently taught children expelled from middle and high school.  In addition, I taught nursing school for 2 ½ years, which  led me to the love of teaching. In addition,  I am the co-creator of an afterschool enrichment program in Mississippi called The Meridian Freedom Project.  It helps mentor teenagers and create a pathway for college.

It is a privilege to be in the classroom with curious minds and energetic personalities.  I hope to create an environment that ignites a flame in each student that crosses my path.  I look forward to a long career at Hickory High and have enjoyed getting to know the outstanding students and amazing staff.

My philosophy is : The greatest discovery of any generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitude.
